Meta — Reality Labs

META || STICKER EVOLUTION

Bridging millions into Horizon

Problem

How do you move Facebook and Instagram users into Horizon, and make them stay?

What we did

Lead pathfinder on unlockables (80% of all bridged users); rapid IDIs on rewards pointed the team to Non-Avatar Stickers.

Results

+10% monthly active users on Horizon Mobile; mobile MAU doubled over a critical three month window.

META || AI CO-CREATION

How people actually create with AI

Problem

Meta needed to know how people want to create with AI, and where human control matters.

What we did

Foundational mixed-method research; published Meta's first strategic papers on AI co-creation for text and game generation.

Results

Cleared the concept gate into production and became the blueprint design and engineering built against.

AI Developments

META || INTERNAL CHAT DEV FEATURE

Internal Chat Dev Feature

Problem

Qualitative synthesis was slow, manual, and different on every team.

What we did

Spearheaded Meta's AI-native research initiative: a multi-agent workflow embedded straight into UX infrastructure.

Results

73% of research teams adopted it, automating qualitative synthesis at scale.

META || STICKERS

AI Sticker Testing Tool

Problem

Testing sticker designs meant slow back and forth, with no quick way for Art and Design to gauge new concepts for Horizon Worlds.

What we did

Designed and shipped in a 24 hour internal hackathon: an AI tool that generates sticker concepts and pressure tests them against three synthetic player archetypes, previewed in a realistic Instagram DM.

Results

Early stage sticker validation without design resources or participant recruitment, giving teams fast directional signal before committing to production.

LEGO || SMART PLAY™

The first new brick in 90 years

Problem

Could a LEGO brick become digital without killing what makes it play?

What we did

Research from first concept to production: IDIs, concept testing, a 15+ person pod and a first of its kind motion-capture facility.

Results

The brand's first major brick innovation in 90 years shipped as the SMART Play™ System.

Why 9 to 11s put the brick down

Problem

LEGO loses kids at 9 to 11. What would digital and physical play together need to win them back?

What we did

Led Phase 1 research into the drop-off audience. Mapped five play needs (Mastery, Collectables, Nurture, Customisation, Belonging) and tested three prototypes against them.

Results

All three prototypes hit desirability. The play-loop limits we exposed set the brief for Project Brazil.

LEGO || PROJECT BRAZIL

A game system inside a physical product

Problem

Could a game system live inside the brick itself?

What we did

Lead Experience Designer for Phase 2, the first integration of a game system into a physical product, built on the play spaces of Challenge and Connecting.

Results

Four high potential play needs became two core play spaces and six core moments of insight that validated the concept.

Notable LEGO Achievements

LEGO || LDN FOCUS ROOM

The world's first motion-capture facility for children

Problem

You can't ask a 7 year old to think aloud. Observing play without interrupting it needed a new kind of room.

What we did

Commissioned the architectural design, advised construction and designed the technology setup for motion-first observations (Opti-Track).

Results

The world's first motion-capture facility for children, turning physical play into product data.

LEGO || PROJECT ARIA

Heat maps for how children see play

Problem

Observation tells you what kids do, not what draws their eyes.

What we did

Early access partnership with Meta's Project Aria to create LEGO's first proprietary heat map technology.

Results

A sharper qualitative instrument for observing how children experience play.

Playboy Landmark Study

Objective

Observe Gen Z's perceptions of Playboy and assess differing market perceptions of the brand to position a sexually explicit app.

N=5,728 · 5 markets

Findings

Gen Z sees a different Playboy than their parents did. In China the brand reads as clothing, not sex, which lowered acceptance of a move into OnlyFans territory.

GSK Home Remedy Study

Objective

Understand home remedies in EMEA markets to assess usage and how best to address underdeveloped pharmaceutical markets.

N=2,112 · all emerging markets

Findings

Home remedies differ greatly by region. To win adoption in local markets, medications should carry the home remedy ingredients people already trust.
